Lab Scientist - Certified

About the role

The Medical Lab Scientist is responsible for accurately performing medical laboratory tests following established laboratory policies and procedures; adhering to performance and quality standards. The Lab Scientist is responsible for clinical instrument maintenance, for new test and instrumentation development. The Lab Scientist is responsible for training of other laboratory co-workers. The Lab Scientist actively participates in the overall functioning of the clinical laboratory, assuming leadership or member roles on committees and projects. The Lab Scientist is responsible for keeping the laboratory in continuous readiness for inspection.

Responsibilities

• Accurately perform medical laboratory tests following established laboratory policies and procedures
• Adhere to performance and quality standards
• Maintain clinical instruments
• Develop new tests and instrumentation
• Train other laboratory coworkers
• Participate in committee and project work
• Ensure laboratory readiness for inspections
• Provide guidance to other laboratory coworkers

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, medical laboratory science, medical technology, or other qualifying major
• Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist (Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathology, National Credentialing Agency, American Medical Technologists, or Board of Registry of the American Association of Bioanalysts)
• One year of clinical laboratory experience, performing non-waived patient testing and required to pass a nationally recognized certification exam (AMT or ASCP) within 5 years and 6 months from the hire date

Other Qualifications

• Visual acuity and color discrimination
• Able to lift 50 pounds
• Good verbal and written communication skills
