Lab Representative | General Lab | Full-time | Days

Responsibilities

• Variety of laboratory functions including full and contract registration, phlebotomy, specimen processing, and clerical duties to ensure proper registration, billing, collection, accessioning, and preparation of laboratory specimens.
• Load specimens onto automated line and troubleshoot when alarms are active.
• Accept and prioritize specimens arriving at specimen drop-off, answer incoming telephone calls, and provide excellent customer service.
• Work follow-up lists for the department and maintain logs as necessary.
• Prepare specimens for reference labs and work in the send-out bench when assigned.
• Work from various locations (Pavilion, North Campus, or Emerson) or float between different lab departments as needed based on department needs and within the scope of practice.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Preferred: Certification from a medical assistant program, military medical or laboratory assistant program.
• Necessary Skills: Professional and courteous interaction with internal and external laboratory customers, knowledge of computer data entry, good telephone communication skills, basic knowledge of laboratory techniques in specimen handling, ability to prioritize tasks and organize workflow, good decision-making skills, attention to detail, ability to handle stressful situations professionally.
• Experience: Less than one year healthcare environment experience, preferred phlebotomy experience in hospital and geriatric environments, specimen processing experience, experience using a Laboratory Information system for accessioning and specimen tracking.
