Lab Monitoring Technician I

About the role

This role manages the day-to-day operations of the technical aspects of the laboratory quality system. The individual will coordinate activities required to meet ISO technical requirements, monitor and advise on system performance, and distribute performance reports. They will liaise with other internal Lab Quality and Technical Specialists to ensure compliance.

Works under direct supervision with a Level II or III DNA Monitoring Tech while learning the role. Less than 1 year of experience is required, and the candidate must demonstrate proficiency for tasks allowed to complete independently.

Responsibilities

• Keep materials organized and be aware of all birds in the pen area.
• Obtain quality blood samples with minimal stress for birds.
• Ensure blood samples are organized and the correct wingband is assigned to each.
• Maintain sufficient inventory of DNA supplies to prevent work delays at the farm level.
• Responsible for the quality of work performed and the quality of the product produced.
• Maintain pen, house, and personal supply hygiene.
• Identify wingband placement and change wingbands as needed.
• Act as a team player and communicate effectively with the team and manager.
• Report welfare, biosecurity, equipment, and other concerns to the responsible party, team, and/or manager.
• Follow company policy and meet established procedures regarding biosecurity, animal welfare, safety, ISO, drug, and alcohol policies.
• Take on special projects and perform all other duties as assigned by the manager.

Requirements

• High school diploma required.
• Comfortable with the use of technology.
• Ability to communicate orally, in writing, and via email.
• Works well with others and supports the team where needed.
• Must possess the ability to apply common sense understanding to accomplish daily and weekly goals, as well as adapt to changing testing needs requested by supervisors.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
• Must successfully pass a background check and drug screen prior to employment.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Other Conditions

• Candidate must be comfortable handling farm samples while maintaining sample integrity.
• Candidate should remain cognizant of surroundings, task at hand, aberrant results, potential contamination, and general data-collecting practices.
• For biosecurity purposes, the candidate cannot own or house any wild or domesticated avian species.
• Candidate must adhere to a strict 72-hour quarantine period after contact with non-Hubbard avian species.
• Many tasks performed in this role may require repetitive bending, lifting, kneeling, standing, walking, and contact with live animals.
