Lab Manager position- James Madisons' Montpelier

James Madison's Montpelier is hiring a Lab Manager for a 9 month term with the possibility of extension.

About the role

We're particularly interested in candidates that have some experience with iron conservation, as we excavated a blacksmith shop and farrier site this year.

Responsibilities

• Manage laboratory operations
• Conduct research on iron conservation techniques
• Collaborate with archaeologists and conservators
• Document findings and maintain records

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in conservation, archaeology, materials science, or related field
• Experience with iron conservation
• Strong organizational and communication skills

Qualifications

• Knowledge of archaeological methods and principles
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks

Skills

• Proficiency in laboratory equipment and techniques
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
