Manager of Laboratory Operations

About the Role

The Manager of Laboratory Operations oversees administrative, fiscal, regulatory, and compliance activities to ensure efficient operation of clinical laboratories and adherence to corporate policies. This role requires a strong understanding of quality control, quality assurance, point-of-care testing programs, and regulatory agency standards (CAP, AABB, Joint Commission, CLIA, FDA, OSHA, etc.). The position involves managing the chargemaster, CPT codes, group purchasing, and policy development while addressing laboratory-related complaints and collaborating with other departments to resolve operational issues.

Responsibilities

• Plan goals and objectives to achieve optimal laboratory performance.
• Ensure compliance with financial goals and regulatory agency requirements (CAP, AABB, Joint Commission, CLSI, CLIA, etc.).
• Understand contract verbiage and stay updated on changes in laboratory medicine.
• Evaluate capital equipment needs and make procurement recommendations.
• Ensure adherence to corporate compliance policies and provide consultation to laboratory staff.
• Assist with regulatory, compliance, and leadership issues in laboratories.
• Evaluate proficiency testing failures and guide laboratories in corrective actions.
• Attend continuing education opportunities and represent Lab Services in meetings or projects.
• Provide guidance on regulatory agency plans of action and review corrective action plans.
• Maintain regular attendance and comply with all policies and standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or related sciences (required).
• Master’s Degree in Medical Technology or related sciences (preferred).
• 8–10 years of progressive experience in Clinical/Anatomic Laboratory (required).
• 5–7 years of management experience (required).
• Strong knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
• MT (ASCP) Medical Technologist certification or equivalent (required).
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer (no immigration sponsorship available).
