About the role
The Laboratory Assistant Specialist I plays a crucial role in the clinical and anatomic pathology laboratories at Moffitt Cancer Center. They handle specimens, prepare them for testing, and assist in various laboratory processes.
Responsibilities
- Cytopreparation and specimen handling in the cytology laboratory
- Registration and customer service for outreach and non-patient samples in flow cytometry
- Assistance during bone marrow aspiration and biopsy procedures in hematology
- Processing complex specimens and troubleshooting in histology and molecular diagnostics
- Specimen processing, registration, and troubleshooting in outreach and non-patient testing
- Performing pre-analytical testing procedures in microbiology
- Utilizing reference lab portals for ordering and shipping specimens
- Maintaining equipment and records, performing quality assurance activities, and assisting with clerical duties
- Multi-tasking in a busy, disruptive environment, communicating effectively with various professionals, and demonstrating strong computer data entry skills
Requirements
High school diploma or GED. Strong oral communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to adapt to change are essential. No licenses or certifications are required.
