About the role

The role of Lab Assistant at MercyOne involves supporting various laboratory departments by assisting technical staff in specimen collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of laboratory tests. This position ensures accuracy and efficiency in specimen handling, contributes to reliable test processes, and maintains compliance with quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Supports technical staff in the collection, processing, and analysis of laboratory tests.
  • Accurately collects and labels specimens, ensuring proper identification and adherence to laboratory policies.
  • Manages specimen registration and logs, evaluating adequacy and acceptability, and documenting in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Resolves problematic specimens and test orders in collaboration with laboratory staff and clients.
  • Operates laboratory information systems for accurate data entry and workflow management.
  • Restocks supplies, participates in peer teaching, and engages in department or hospital committees and projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Laboratory experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems and tools quickly.
  • Comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
  • Personal presence characterized by honesty, integrity, and caring, inspiring and motivating others.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.

Skills

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Mon - Thurs 7:00 pm - 5:30 am
