The role of Lab Assistant at MercyOne involves supporting various laboratory departments by assisting technical staff in the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of laboratory tests necessary for patient diagnosis and treatment. Key responsibilities include ensuring accurate and efficient specimen handling, managing workflows, and maintaining compliance with quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Supports technical staff in specimen collection, processing, and analysis.
• Accurately collects and labels specimens according to laboratory policy.
• Registers and logs specimens in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• Resolves problematic patient specimens and test orders collaboratively with laboratory staff and clients.
• Operates laboratory information systems for accurate data entry and workflow management.
• Restocks supplies, participates in peer teaching, and engages in department or hospital committees and projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Laboratory experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems and tools quickly.
• Comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
• Personal presence characterized by honesty, integrity, and caring, inspiring and motivating others.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
