Job Requirements

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture on adult, neonatal and pediatric patients according to established protocol.
  • Identifies and labels specimens.
  • Aids in patient care before, during, and after collection.
  • Checks-in patients and verifies all necessary information is accurate and complete while processing test orders in the computer system, using both Epic and Laboratory Information System according to laboratory protocol.
  • Instructs patients on all urine, stool, and other bodily fluid collection procedures and testing requirements and obtains and processes urine specimens for drug screening.
  • Cleans and maintains laboratory equipment in the work area.
  • Inventory supplies for reordering and routinely stocks supplies.
  • Answers telephones, maintains logs, creates files, maintains inventories of supplies.
  • Enters order entries in the laboratory information system.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma and/or GED Required.

  • Become and maintain proficiency in computer systems.
  • Excellent communication skills with internal and external customers of the lab.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Work under pressure and maintain high levels of accuracy.
  • Follow detailed instructions, appropriately prioritize tasks, and hold strong problem-solving skills.
  • Understand and comply with state and federal laws and regulations and stay updated with federal regulatory changes.
  • Knowledge of all routine container and minimum volumes required for specimen collection.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Ability to answer the telephone in a pleasant, timely and helpful manner.
