About the role

Abrazo Central Hospital is committed to providing exceptional patient care in a supportive and collaborative environment. As a member of our team, you will perform routine technical and clerical functions, including venipuncture, specimen receipt, and distribution of laboratory specimens. You will also perform CLIA waived laboratory tests and assist in microbiology processing as requested.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine technical and clerical functions to include specimen registration and billing.
  • Performs specimen receipt and distribution of laboratory specimens.
  • Performs phlebotomy duties as assigned.
  • Performs CLIA waived laboratory tests, as requested.
  • Assists in microbiology processing and plating specimens, as requested.
  • Handles other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1 year of laboratory experience and/or completion of a formal phlebotomy training program.
  • Phlebotomy certification where State law requires.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in the laboratory or medical-related field from an accredited institution.
  • Basic laboratory computer/lab information system experience.
  • Completion of formal phlebotomy training program and/or national phlebotomy certification through ASCP, ANP, ASPT, or similar.

  • Ability to operate basic laboratory equipment, computers, and medical software.
  • Accurate data entry into medical software.
  • Attention to detail to verify relevant data and process specimens ensuring appropriate handling, packaging, and shipping according to established protocols.
  • Understanding of pre-analytical variables that affect laboratory specimens.
  • Correct application of laboratory medical terminology and measurements.
  • Organizational, planning, and prioritization skills to handle multiple tasks accurately and timely.
  • Problem-solving skills to address questionable findings or concerns.
  • Capable of handling multiple priorities in a high-volume setting.
