Lab Assistant I

About the role

The Laboratory Assistant I supports and provides customer service to the clinical laboratory department. They are responsible for processing specimens and performing waived or moderate testing as directed by the Clinical Laboratory Manager or Director. Duties include pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical tasks as outlined in the facility's protocols.

Responsibilities

• Receiving, processing, labeling, and distributing specimens
• Testing specimens (waived or moderate) as directed
• Communicating with nursing and laboratory staff regarding specimen issues
• Understanding laboratory specimens and HIS/LIS computer systems
• Performing clerical duties as needed
• Fulfilling established protocols and procedures to ensure quality patient results

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Phlebotomy experience, preferred
• Ability to read, write, comprehend English, use computers, and process paperwork
• Professional telephone etiquette and effective verbal/written communication skills
• Problem-solving ability in complex situations
• Organizational skills, self-motivation, and fast-paced environment adaptability
• Assigned shift availability
• Comfortable handling human specimens

Qualifications

• Completion of training in unpacking and putting away inventory items
• Assistance in performing other duties as assigned by the manager

Pay

This job will be authorized 0.01 hours bi-weekly.
