Lab Assistant

Night shift position in a high-volume, fast-paced laboratory production environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine laboratory functions accurately to support professional staff and production.
• Sort, receive, and process specimens in the department.
• Perform routine instrument maintenance on equipment.
• Centrifuge specimens, print labels, record data (e.g., temperature charts), and manage specimen storage and retrieval.
• Prepare reagents and media.
• Prepare specimens at workstations for testing, including:
  • Building worklists
  • Aliquoting specimens into sample cups
  • Checking specimens for clots and fibrin
  • Inoculation and slide preparation
• Perform QA/QC duties as assigned.
• Resolve pending lists and locate missing samples.
• Decontaminate work areas and perform weekly radioactive wipe tests.
• Maintain department records and files.
• Change gas cylinders as needed.
• Follow all PPE requirements and safety regulations.
• Operate laboratory computer systems and PCs.
• Dispose of biohazardous material properly.
• Complete training and competency checklists as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; medical assistant training helpful.
• Math and science coursework preferred.
• Ability to establish work priorities and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
• Strong retention of learned information.
• Professional, courteous, and respectful interaction with coworkers and customers.
• Reliable personal transportation and valid driver’s license (public transit or rideshare not acceptable).
• Ability to work in a busy, repetitive-task environment.
• Medical terminology knowledge a plus.
• Must wear lab coat, mask, goggles, gloves, and other protective wear when testing samples.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) candidates strongly preferred; English proficiency required.

10:00 PM – 6:30 AM EST
