Lab Assistant

Local contract position in Miramar, FL (33025) for 3.5 months with possible extension. Shift: 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM EST.

About the Role

Perform various routine laboratory functions in a precise and accurate fashion to assist laboratory professional staff and facilitate production.

Responsibilities

• Sort and receive specimens in the department.
• Perform routine instrument maintenance on equipment.
• Centrifuge specimens, print extra labels, record data (temperature charts), and manage specimen storage and retrieval.
• Prepare reagents and/or media in the department.
• Prepare specimens at workstations for testing, including building worklists, aliquoting specimens into sample cups, checking specimens for clots and fibrin, inoculation, and slide preparation.
• Perform QA/QC duties as assigned.
• Resolve pending lists and locate missing samples.
• Decontaminate work areas and perform weekly radioactive wipe tests.
• Maintain files for department records and change gas cylinders.
• Follow all PPE requirements and safety regulations.
• Use the laboratory computer system and operate PCs.
• Dispose of biohazardous material.
• Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; medical assistant training helpful.
• Math and science courses preferred.
• No prior work experience required.
• Ability to establish work priorities and handle several tasks for maximum workstation efficiency.
• Ability to retain information once learned.
• Must interact courteously and respectfully with coworkers, internal, and external customers.

Pay

$19.78 per hour. Pay offered is based on experience, expertise, credentialing, and education.
