Responsibilities
- Utilize expertise and advanced technology to precisely collect, prepare, and process a diverse range of patient specimens (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) for various diagnostic tests.
- Possess a foundational understanding of laboratory procedures, demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, and maintain an eager commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Properly identify all in-patients prior to specimen collection by matching information present on patient arm band with information on laboratory requisition; perform verbal identification with patient when condition allows.
- Properly identify all outpatients prior to specimen collection by matching information on outpatient slip with verbal communication with the patient or patient's guardian/guarantor.
- Properly identify all specimens coming from outpatient clients by matching the information on the tube with that from the laboratory requisition.
- Properly identify and band all patients for blood bank by comparing information on patient arm band with that on the blood bank requisition; transfer this information to the blood bank arm band and the tube per phlebotomy procedure manual.
- Place arm bands on the patient's right arm.
Requirements
- Currently certified by the State of California as a Phlebotomist
- Current American Heart Association BLS certificate
