About the role

The Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) is inviting internal L&I employees to apply for the Compliance Industrial Safety & Health Investigator 4 (CISHI 4) position in the Appeals Unit. This role is crucial for ensuring fair and consistent resolution of appealed citations and guiding critical decisions affecting workplace safety.

Responsibilities

  • Lead informal conferences for appealed safety and health cases, ensuring fairness, clarity, and professionalism.
  • Review and analyze case files, inspection reports, and evidence to prepare Corrective Notices of Redetermination.
  • Negotiate settlements, educate employers on compliance, and document all actions clearly and thoroughly.
  • Collaborate with internal staff and external stakeholders to ensure consistency statewide.
  • Manage multiple cases under strict timelines while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.

Qualifications

  • MUST be a current L&I employee.
  • Six years’ experience as a DOSH Compliance Industrial Safety & Health Investigator or equivalent experience as a Federal OSHA or other state plan journey-level occupational safety and health specialist or industrial hygienist.
  • A Master’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, Occupational Safety & Health, or related field may substitute for 2 years of required experience.
  • The ability to take action to learn and grow.
  • The ability to take action to meet the needs of others.
