About the role

The Équipe Mobile 107 Précarité operates across the Brussels-Capital Region, working with adults living in situations of extreme precarity who often have complex, long-term psychological distress. The team meets people living on the streets, in squats, emergency shelters, or precarious housing. Many are disconnected from care, socially isolated, and not seeking help. The mission is not to convince or impose support, but to create the conditions for a meeting — step by step, at the person's own pace. Before addressing care, it is sometimes necessary to simply rebuild a connection.

As a psychosocial worker with the precarity team, you will intervene directly in the living environments of those you support, across the Brussels territory. You will establish initial contact, assess the situation holistically, and build personalised support in partnership with the individual and various stakeholders in their network.

Responsibilities

  • Receiving and analysing new support requests
  • Conducting initial field meetings in pairs
  • Building trusting relationships with individuals who are often not seeking help
  • Coordinating the psycho-medico-social network around each person
  • Providing medium- to long-term psychosocial support
  • Assisting with social, administrative, and health-related procedures
  • Participating in multidisciplinary consultations
  • Preventing breakdowns in care and ensuring continuity of support
  • Maintaining case files and administrative follow-up

Profile

  • Hold a bachelor's degree in the social, paramedical, or healthcare field
  • Ideally have experience in street work, with populations in precarious situations, or in mental health
  • Appreciate long-term support work and can invest in relationships without expecting immediate results
  • Comfortable with complex situations, chaotic life trajectories, and people who do not spontaneously seek help
  • Have or wish to develop a strong understanding of the Brussels psycho-medico-social network and enjoy partnership work
  • Knowledge of Dutch, English, or any other language is a strong asset

Key qualities

  • Able to connect with simplicity, respect, and authenticity
  • Listen before acting
  • Comfortable with uncertainty and accepting that some situations take time to evolve
  • Demonstrate tact, discernment, and strong analytical skills
  • Question your own practice, reframe your perspectives, and see clinical reflection as essential to your work
  • Curious about alternative psychosocial approaches, recovery-oriented practices, and new ways of supporting vulnerable individuals
  • Enjoy both autonomous work and team exchanges, and leverage collective intelligence
  • Mobile, flexible, and able to adapt to sometimes unstable environments while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Committed to continuous learning – ongoing training, intervision, and experience-sharing are part of the team culture
