Responsibilities

  • Provides direct and indirect patient care in the medical-surgical setting under the direct supervision of a registered nurse preceptor.
  • Communicates with RN preceptor, as appropriate, about changes in patient’s clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology.
  • Participates in the department's performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Demonstrates supportive behaviors necessary for performing bedside report using IMAP & SBAR (both accomplished in partnership with patient inside room).
  • Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy, including pediatric, geriatric, and the general patient population.
  • Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Reports to RN preceptor regarding patient pain assessment.
  • Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
  • In coordination with RN preceptor, is able to formulate a patient care plan.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Has completed the fundamentals course (and verified proof) in nursing school.
  • Certified as a C.N.A., EMT, or Paramedic required.
  • Current BLS certification.
