About the Role
The Sous Chef contributes to a joyful and vibrant community by executing the menu, ensuring high performance and resident/visitor satisfaction. The focus is on food appearance, quality, and the overall dining experience.
Responsibilities
- Comply with Standards of Service and assist in ensuring the same from all kitchen employees.
- Assist in managing day-to-day kitchen operations, coordinate food production schedules, and ensure the highest level of food quality, taste, and presentation.
- Participate in food preparation, produce consistently high-quality food, and expedite during peak meal periods.
- Control food costs by training kitchen staff on proper food preparation, handling, and leftover management.
- Ensure kitchen employees adhere to uniform, grooming, and appearance standards.
- Establish kitchen goals and resolve operational problems in conjunction with the Director of Dining Services.
- Develop menus, create and enforce recipes and product specifications, and train staff on new menus.
- Maintain effective communication within the kitchen and dining room, addressing staff suggestions and concerns.
- Build working relationships with the sky lounge manager, staff, and other departments.
- Assist in food orders based on projected business levels.
- Conduct regular kitchen, dishwashing, and cooler inspections, correcting deficiencies promptly.
- Maintain State-required Sanitation and Temperature Logs.
- Attend and participate in required meetings and trainings.
- Stay current on assigned tasks and duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three years of experience in a commercial kitchen preferred.
- Good organizational and verbal/written communication skills.
- Ability to relate positively and effectively with residents, families, community members, and staff.
- Special interest in and positive attitude toward working with long-term care residents and the elderly.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Basic computer knowledge and aptitude to learn company applications.
- Pass a criminal background and fingerprint check.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.
- Ability to creatively problem-solve.
- Meets all mandatory health requirements by State regulations.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Maintain a current Food Handlers Card; obtain ServSafe Certification soon after hiring.
