Kitchen Assistant - Mount Prospect
About the role
Support the cook in preparing nutritious, family-style meals that promote children's health, growth, and learning. Create a warm, predictable routine for children, educators, and center staff.
Responsibilities
- Previous experience in a kitchen role, preferably in a domestic or commercial property
- Passion for nutrition and inspiring healthy eating habits
- Knowledge of managing different dietary requirements, especially food allergies
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and written
- Ability to work under pressure
Qualifications
- Candidates must pass required state and company background checks
- Must have a high school diploma or GED
- Preferred to have or obtain a food handler certification within 30 days of hire
- Course work or certification in Nutrition is preferred
- Experience in a childcare center, school cafeteria, commercial kitchen, or high-volume food service setting is preferred

Pay
The hourly rate for this position is between $20.00 - $21.00 per hour.
Schedule
This is a Monday - Friday position with preferable hours of 9:00am - 2:00pm.
Physical Requirements
This position requires compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, Bright Horizons’, and client site requirements concerning immunizations, employment physical/screening, and health and safety training. Physical demands include lifting and carrying food and supplies (typically 10 to 40 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds), standing for extended periods, bending, reaching, pushing carts, and performing repetitive kitchen and cleaning tasks. Employees must maintain mental and physical alertness and be able to respond immediately and appropriately to unexpected situations or emergencies.
Compensation
$20.00 - $21.00 per hour.
