Kinesiology Assistant Professor/Football Head Coach

About the Role

Under the direction of the Dean of Kinesiology and Athletics, the Kinesiology and Athletics Assistant Professor will serve as the Head Coach of the intercollegiate football team with an emphasis on Offensive Coordination. The position includes teaching classes within the core curriculum of the Kinesiology and Athletics Division, serving on campus committees, and developing curriculum.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean.
  • Helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content and assessing student learning outcomes.
  • Maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field and continuing professional development.
  • Utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties.
  • Maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position.
  • Assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review.
  • Serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance, including accreditation and student co-curricular activities.
  • Assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean.

Head Coaching

  • Recruiting student-athletes.
  • Supervising student-athletes and assisting with the monitoring of their academic progress and eligibility.
  • Creating a year-round strength training program.
  • Preparing budgets and fundraising.
  • Evaluating and maintaining equipment and supplies.
  • Coordinating team travel arrangements.
  • Selection and supervising assistant coaches.
  • Conducting the football program under the rules and regulations of the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA), Northern California Football Conference (NCFC), National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

Offensive Coordination

  • Managing offensive players.
  • Overseeing the assistant coaches.
  • Developing the offensive game plan.

Instructional Assignment

The instructional assignment may include, but is not limited to, teaching the following courses:

  • KINES 350 Theory of Football
  • SPORT 330 Football, Intercollegiate-Men
  • SPORT 331 Off Season Conditioning for Football
  • SPORT 332 Pre-Season Conditioning for Football
  • TMACT 340 Football
  • FITNS 375 Introduction to Meditation

Requirements

All degrees must be from an accredited institution completed by time of hire.

  • Master’s degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise, or adaptive physical education; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the above; AND Master’s degree in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration, or physical therapy; OR the equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of coaching experience, with at least one (1) year of experience as a Head Coach or Assistant Head Coach.
  • An equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.

Pay

Initial maximum salary placement is based on academic degree, upper/graduate level units earned, and/or related professional occupational experience (the initial maximum placement is Class V, Step 8).
