About the role

The Kindergarten Teaching Assistant position at St. Francis International School in Silver Spring is for the 2026-27 school year. This is a full-time role reporting directly to the Principal.

Responsibilities

  • Foster and support Catholic beliefs, traditions, and practices.
  • Reflect the Catholic Church’s teaching on social justice and engage in service to others.
  • Aid in the planning of liturgical ceremonies such as Mass, penance services, and prayer services.
  • Lead and encourage prayer in the classroom.
  • Attend Catholic liturgical ceremonies as required.
  • Discuss assigned duties with the classroom teacher to coordinate instruction.
  • Assist in creating lesson plans aligned with Archdiocese of Washington standards.
  • Prepare instructional lessons and teaching aids under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Grade and record student work and administer make-up work and assessments.
  • Support classroom instruction and assist students during independent practice times.
  • Administer individual and group instruction including lectures, discussions, and hands-on activities.
  • Use assessment data to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all students.
  • Support and enforce classroom procedures and rules to optimize instructional time.
  • Maintain a positive learning environment based on mutual respect and cooperation.
  • Set high expectations for achievement.
  • Communicate with the classroom teacher to understand expectations for students receiving small group and remedial instruction.
  • Produce weekly reports for the classroom teacher on the progress of small group and remedial instruction.
  • Perform duties such as carpool, recess, lunch, and classroom teacher substitution as required.
  • Sponsor clubs and other school activities as required.
  • Attend Home and School meetings and other after-hour school events as required.
  • Participate in all required faculty and professional development meetings as required.

Requirements

Knowledge of child development and supervision is required.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children in a school setting.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Pass a background check.
