About the role

St. Francis International School in Silver Spring is hiring a Preschool Teaching Assistant for the 2026-27 school year. This is a full‑time position reporting to the Principal.

Responsibilities

• Catholic Identity

  Actively foster and support Catholic beliefs, traditions and practices; reflect the Church’s teaching on social justice and witness service to others; assist in planning liturgical ceremonies (Mass, penance, prayer services); lead and encourage classroom prayer; attend required Catholic liturgical ceremonies.

• Planning

  Discuss assigned duties with the classroom teacher to coordinate instruction; assist in creating lesson plans aligned with Archdiocese of Washington Academic and Religious Standards; prepare instructional lessons for individuals and small groups; prepare teaching aids and lesson materials; display student work and prepare bulletin boards; type, laminate, file and duplicate materials; grade and record student work and tests.

• Instruction

  Present subject matter under the teacher’s direction; work with small groups to reinforce learning and provide remedial help; assist students during independent practice; administer make‑up work and assessments; help plan and deliver individual and group instruction (lectures, discussion, hands‑on); use assessment data to differentiate instruction for diverse student needs.

• Classroom Management

  Support and enforce classroom procedures and rules established by the teacher; maintain a positive learning environment based on mutual respect and cooperation; set high expectations for achievement; ensure Catholic values underlie all interactions.

• Communication

  Use formal and informal assessments to inform teachers of student progress; attend parent conferences as required; routinely communicate with the teacher to understand expectations for students receiving small‑group/remedial instruction; produce weekly reports on accomplishments in small‑group and remedial instruction.

• Non‑Instructional Duties

  Perform carpool, recess, lunch and classroom teacher substitution as required; sponsor clubs and school activities; attend Home and School meetings and after‑school events; participate in all required faculty and professional development meetings.

Qualifications

Knowledge of child development and supervision. While a conscientious effort has been made to include all duties and expectations of the Archdiocese of Washington elementary school teacher assistant, the above is not all‑inclusive and the position’s duties may be expanded or modified at the discretion of the classroom teacher or principal.

Pay

$20.00 to $25.00 per hour
