Kiln Tender Trainee
About the role
We are seeking individuals who are committed to safety, have a positive attitude, excellent work ethic, and a desire to work in a manufacturing facility. This position will be responsible for operating our dry kilns. The successful candidate will participate in an extensive training program to learn how to safely operate the dry kilns used in our lumber drying process. Opportunities are available on both 1st and 2nd shifts—please indicate your preference.
During the training period, the pay rate is $19.94 per hour. Upon successful completion of the training period, the pay increases to $22.14 per hour, with potential to $24.04 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Total commitment to working safely and following all safety rules and regulations
- Safely operate the dry kilns and conduct housekeeping activities in each assigned area
- Move loaded kiln cars into and out of the dry kilns
- Monitor the computer control system used in operating the kilns to dry lumber to tight specifications
- Perform minor maintenance and repairs to the dry kilns
- Interpret work instructions adequately and successfully complete tasks as assigned
- Demonstrate willingness and ability to learn new jobs and skills
- Communicate with team members and leadership to improve safety and operating performance as well as meet job expectations
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Steady, documented work history
- Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship
- Able to perform basic math and basic computer skills
- Good communication skills
- Team-oriented
- Willingness to work any shift, including weekends and holidays
- Willingness and ability to wear all required personal protective equipment
- Ability to work in extreme heat, humidity, and cold
- Ability to perform the essential job functions of the position, which includes climbing stairs, navigating catwalks, lifting up to 50 pounds, stooping, and bending
- Willingness and ability to learn new jobs and skills
- Experience operating forklift or other mobile equipment strongly preferred
Pay
Training pay: $19.94 per hour. After training: $22.14 per hour, with potential to $24.04 per hour.
Schedule
Full-time. Opportunities available on both 1st and 2nd shifts.
