About the Role

Kia Design Center America, located in Irvine, California, is seeking an Advanced Design Exterior / Interior Hybrid Designer with a primary focus on Exterior Design. This role is within the Future Design Team, the advanced Design department exploring innovative concepts for the KIA brand, primarily for the American market but also contributing globally. The team works across Exterior / Interior Design, User Experience, Storytelling, Advanced Engineering, and brand-related topics.

Responsibilities

  • Create innovative and compelling design proposals for concept cars, production car programs, and advanced explorations.
  • Visually communicate design proposals through sketches, renderings, 3D digital modeling, and AI applications.
  • Independently generate high-quality 3D sketch models using Alias, SubD, Maya, or Blender.
  • Mature designs through personal decision-making and oversee the entire design process from start to finish, including travel to Korea.
  • Research and analyze trends in automotive design, emerging technologies, products, fashion, and architecture.
  • Attend auto shows and other design-related events.
  • Work self-sufficiently with a proactive mindset.
  • Oversee the development of models with Clay and CAS sculptors.
  • Collaborate with Management, Engineering, Marketing, and Design teams to discuss and incorporate design criteria, ensuring alignment with engineering and manufacturing requirements.
  • Produce presentation-ready materials to support design reviews.

Requirements

  • BS, BFA, MS, MFA, or Diploma in Transportation / Product Design with a primary focus on Exterior Design.
  • Professional design experience at an Automotive Design studio is a plus, though not essential if internship and college projects demonstrate comparable execution.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing creativity, proportional understanding, surfacing skills, and visualization techniques.
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D visualization software (e.g., Photoshop, Sketchbook, Procreate) and strong digital modeling skills (preferably Alias, SubD, Maya, or Blender).
  • Experience with AI applications in the design process is a plus but not a replacement for core skills.
  • Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.

Pay

Salary Range: $75,000 – $112,000.
