KH-Certified Sterilization Technician, Evenings, Flex

About the Role

Responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, processing, distribution, storage, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation in the Sterile Processing area. Instrument and equipment knowledge, along with collaboration with surgeons, nurses, and the OR team, is vital to ensure proper products are available at the time of surgery.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminate, clean, inspect, process, and assemble surgical instrumentation for the Operating Room, Sterile Processing area, and durable patient care equipment.
• Operate and maintain pre-vacuum/gravity steam sterilizers, washer/decontaminators, automatic endoscope reprocessors, and perform high-level disinfection.
• Test sterilizers and maintain accurate records.
• Disinfect video scopes and auxiliary equipment through manual washing and automated systems.
• Conduct visual inspection and operational testing of video scopes and auxiliary equipment.
• Understand cleaning protocols for all Operating Room instruments and use appropriate cleaning agents/detergents.
• Inspect instruments for cleanliness, proper function, and wear before assembly.
• Assemble instrument trays and equipment according to assembly count sheets.
• Wrap or peel-pouch items using appropriate techniques.
• Run machine-specific challenge tests using internal, external, and biological tests.
• Read and interpret sterilizer parameters to ensure proper function.
• Review the OR schedule daily to prioritize surgical cases and collaborate with Supply Chain for systematic supply organization.
• Check for add-on surgeries and prepare necessary instruments.
• Comply with federal, state, AAMI, OSHA, and infection control regulations and policies.
• Perform minor troubleshooting of equipment and determine when professional service is needed.
• Maintain and distribute sterile supplies, crash carts, pediatric crash carts, intubation trays, and other hospital items.
• Practice Universal Precautions and participate in process improvement initiatives.
• Provide additional support and perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 6 months of Surgical Services experience preferred.
• HSPA CRCST (Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician) certification required.
• High school degree or equivalent required.
