Kennel Assistant

Tender Care Animal Hospital in Morton, IL is seeking a detail-oriented, self-driven individual to join our team as a Veterinary Kennel Assistant. This role focuses on patient husbandry, care, and general housekeeping to support our veterinary team.

About the Role

You will provide meals, walks, and medication to boarding patients, monitor for medical or behavioral concerns, and document observations. Additionally, you will ensure kennels, common spaces, and treatment areas are sanitized and well-stocked with supplies.

This position is ideal for those who enjoy cleaning, organization, and contributing to a team-focused environment while caring for animals.

Responsibilities

• Provide meals, walks, and administer medication to boarding patients
• Monitor animals for medical or behavioral concerns and document observations
• Sanitize and maintain cleanliness of kennels, common spaces, and treatment areas
• Stock supplies and ensure areas are well-prepared for veterinary team use
• Safely handle, restrain, and walk dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments
• Communicate patient concerns to the veterinary team

Requirements

• 1+ years of experience as a veterinary kennel assistant or kennel technician preferred (will consider related animal care experience, such as boarding, doggy daycare, FFA, or 4H)
• Genuine passion for animal care and patient wellbeing
• Confidence working with dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments
• Strong awareness of animal behavior and willingness to learn patient safety and handling techniques
• Ability to stay organized and maintain a clean, safe environment
• Dependability, attention to detail, and a positive, team-oriented attitude
• Physical ability to meet the demands of a hands-on animal care role
• Strong observational skills and willingness to communicate concerns to the veterinary team
• Interest in learning and growing within the veterinary profession

Pay

$15–$16.50 per hour

Schedule

Full-time or part-time position with flexible availability needed Monday–Sunday. Shifts include 6:30 AM–2:00 PM and 2:00 PM–9:00 PM.
