Kanjobal Interpreter

About the role

LanguageLine Solutions is hiring a Kanjobal-English phone interpreter to work remotely from your home. This is an independent contractor position and not eligible for employee benefits.

Responsibilities

• Handle interpreting sessions promptly and professionally.
• Render accurate and concise interpretations between Kanjobal and English speakers.
• Speak clearly and politely in both languages.
• Maintain a professional demeanor and remain calm during emergencies.
• Adapt to various industries and sensitive topics.
• Follow client instructions and comply with protocol.
• Understand and respect cultural differences and sensitivities.

Requirements

• Fluency in Kanjobal and English.
• Cultural competency and regional accent awareness.
• Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills.
• Ability to handle emotionally charged and stressful calls.
• Education or work experience in language-related fields.
• Work authorization that allows employment in the United States.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and write Kanjobal and English.

Qualifications

• At least 18 years old.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.
• Access to a quiet, secure space for work.
• A dedicated personal device for business.
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of relevant operating systems.
• Ability to lift up to 26 lbs.
• Knowledge of relevant industries and terminology.

• Strong language skills in Kanjobal and English.
• Cultural sensitivity and awareness.
• Professional demeanor and ability to handle stress.
• Technical proficiency with necessary software and equipment.

Pay

$1.25 - $1.40 per minute.

Technical Requirements

• Dedicated personal device for business.
• Desktop/Laptop computers with Windows, MacOS, or ChromeOS.
• Tablets (iPadOS or Android).
• Smartphones (iOS or Android).
• Restricted brands: Kaspersky products, Huawei hardware.
• High-speed internet connection with download speeds of no less than 5 Mbps, upload speeds of 3 Mbps, ping value of no more than 300 ms, jitter value of no more than 30 ms.
• Quiet workspace free from background noise or distractions.
