JV Volleyball Head Coach
Job Summary
Westover School seeks an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and student-centered Junior Varsity Volleyball Coach to lead our junior varsity program during the Fall 2026 athletic season. The successful candidate will create a positive and competitive team culture while supporting the athletic and personal growth of student-athletes.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Plan, organize, and lead engaging, developmentally appropriate team practices.
- Coach and supervise all scheduled practices, contests, and team activities.
- Travel with the team to away competitions.
- Teach volleyball fundamentals, game strategy, teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive team culture that promotes student growth and confidence.
- Collaborate with the Varsity Volleyball Coach and Director of Athletics to support program goals and athlete development.
- Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all student-athletes.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and members of the Athletics Department.
- Uphold the expectations and policies outlined in the Westover School Coaching Handbook.
- Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, sound judgment, and a commitment to Westover's mission and values.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Previous volleyball coaching experience at the high school, collegiate, or club level preferred, or an equivalent competitive playing background.
- Strong knowledge of volleyball fundamentals, skill development, and game strategy.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate, mentor, and develop student-athletes.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Passion for working with adolescents in an educational environment.
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtain prior to the season.
- Successful completion of all required state and federal background checks.
- Valid Connecticut driver's license with a Public Passenger ("A") endorsement preferred, or willingness to obtain if required.

Working Conditions
- Work is performed primarily in a gymnasium and other athletic facilities, with occasional outdoor activities as required.
- Requires availability during weekday afternoons and evenings, as well as Saturdays throughout the fall athletic season.
- Regular travel to away contests using school-provided transportation.
- Frequent interaction with students, families, faculty, staff, officials, and visiting teams in a dynamic educational environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to actively coach practices and games, including demonstrating skills and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move volleyball equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to travel with the team to away contests.
