About the role
The Assistant Supervisor provides direct oversight and continued training/mentoring of Youth Care Workers while assisting in supervisory tasks within the Juvenile Justice Center. This position reports to the Juvenile Justice Center Supervisor or higher-level official and supervises Youth Care Workers.
Responsibilities
- Oversee Youth Care Workers during shifts to maintain safety and security for residents and staff.
- Provide supervision, structure, and expectations for Youth Care Workers in daily routines and resident interactions.
- Communicate with the supervisory team to address observed issues or concerns.
- Schedule trainings for new Youth Care Workers to mitigate safety and security risks.
- Plan and establish schedules for Youth Care Workers, ensuring participation in resident activities (e.g., instructional or recreational).
- Review documentation for intakes and releases to ensure compliance with OCYF 3800 regulations.
- Complete OCYF Regulatory 3800 Risk Assessments and review Health and Safety plans with the supervisory team.
- Administer medication to residents.
- Respond to crises, observe Youth Care Workers, and physically intervene as needed during resident de-escalation.
- Assist Youth Care Workers with individual resident processing when necessary.
- Accompany Youth Care Workers on resident transports to institutions, clinics, or foster homes, ensuring proper handling of medication and documentation.
- Assess potential problems and provide reports with recommended solutions to the supervisory team.
- Attend Individual Service Plan (ISP), Review of Individual Service Plan (RISP), and court review meetings to provide insight into resident behavior.
- Review documents written by Youth Care Workers before submission to the supervisory team.
- Conduct file audits across all programs to ensure OCYF 3800 compliance.
Requirements
- Completion of sixty (60) college credits at an accredited institution is preferred, and at least six (6) months of full-time or equivalent direct work-related experience (preferred but not required); or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid and current motor vehicle driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Skills
- Knowledge of Youth Care Worker and supervisory responsibilities, as well as facility policies.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills in confrontational or hostile situations.
- Understanding of trauma’s impact on children and youth, including social and emotional development through the teenage years.
- Strong communication skills to relay information between supervisory, training, and administrative teams.
- Ability to supervise Youth Care Workers and ensure resident safety and security.
- Ability to use physical techniques to safely intervene with residents (typically ages 12–18).
- Ability to build effective relationships with residents, including those with social or emotional challenges.
- Ability to maintain professional relationships with family members, law enforcement, and county agencies.
- Proficiency in maintaining records, preparing reports, and reviewing documentation per OCYF 3800 regulations.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and communicate in English.
- Availability to work shifts on a 24/7 schedule.

Physical Demands
- Frequently required to walk, sit, talk, or hear.
- Occasionally required to use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds while physically intervening with residents.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.
- Noise levels in the work environment vary.
