About the role

The positions are located at the Hale Ho`omalu Juvenile Detention Facility in Kapolei, Oahu. Gender-Specific Positions: The positions require the employee to be of the same gender (male) as that of the client being served.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise juveniles in a detention facility, in groups and individual activities.
  • Assist juveniles in adjusting to detention.
  • Maintain secure custody for their own or for the community’s protection.
  • Provide constructive and satisfying supervised activities adapted to the special needs of children and youth in confinement.
  • Observe, report, and consult on the behavior of the juveniles to screen for the undetected mentally or emotionally ill.
  • Lead, supervise, or instruct youths to insure a secure and safe environment.

Requirements

  • Education Requirement: Graduation from high school.
  • General Experience: One (1) year of progressively responsible work experience that demonstrates the ability to follow instructions, learn and apply work procedures, work effectively with other people, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Special Requirement: Experience and/or training which demonstrates the ability to lead, supervise, or instruct youths to insure a secure and safe environment.

Qualifications

  • Driver License: A valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle is required.
  • Intermittent (on call) Work Hours: Some positions are identified as intermittent (on call) for work scheduling purposes. Intermittent (on call) work hours vary from 0 - 40 hours per week dependent on the needs of the department.
  • Shiftwork: These positions require applicants to work on a rotating shift basis. You must be willing and able to work weekends, nights, holidays, and rotating shifts; and work outside of normally scheduled work hours.

Skills

  • Ability to follow instructions, learn and apply work procedures, work effectively with other people, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Experience and/or training which involves leading, supervising, or instructing youths to insure a secure and safe environment.
