Deputy Detention Facility Superintendent (DL) - Kapolei/Honolulu, Oahu
Summary Of Duties
Affords assistance to the Detention Facility Superintendent in directing and overseeing the various support and operational functions of the facility. Oversees and coordinates daily custodial and care activities within a detention facility for juveniles; oversees operational support services to complement detainee supervision. Assumes responsibility in the absence of the Detention Facility Superintendent and is subject to call-in during weekends, holidays, and after work hours.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university, preferably with a major in a behavioral or social science.
General Experience: Two (2) years of experience in providing direct services to children and youth, involving knowledge and application of behavior and attitude handling, counseling and guidance, casework or groupwork techniques, or rehabilitative techniques.
Specialized Experience: Two (2) years of progressively responsible professional counseling or other social services work experience in a criminal justice system (police, courts, corrections, or public/private rehabilitation agencies or organizations), demonstrating knowledge of the criminal justice system, rehabilitation, or institutional programs, including program development and evaluation or development of new and revised procedures.
Supervisory Aptitude: Demonstrated aptitude or potential for supervisory duties through regular or special assignments involving supervisory responsibilities, group/team leadership, or completion of supervision-related training courses.
Allowable Substitutions
Master's degree from an accredited university with specialization in sociology, psychology, criminology, penology, social work or other related behavioral science may be substituted for two (2) years of General Experience.
Completion of all requirements for the Ph.D. degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in one of the fields described in (1) above may be substituted for two (2) years of General Experience and one (1) year of the Specialized Experience.
Testing Information
All applicants meeting the minimum qualification requirements will be required to pass an Attitudinal Test to be eligible for employment consideration. The Attitudinal Test is administered in Honolulu, Oahu only. Candidates must report for the exam in person. Notifications regarding the application and testing process will be sent via email to the provided contact information. Only applicants who pass the Attitudinal Test will be eligible for employment consideration.
Selective Certification Requirement - Driver's License
Due to the driving duties of the position, applicants must possess a valid and unexpired driver's license to operate a motor vehicle.
Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement
The Hawaii State Judiciary shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with detainees in juvenile facilities and lockups, with inmates detained in a prison or jail, or with residents of community confinement facilities who: Engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution; Convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse; Civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in b above; Subject to substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment, or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
