Juvenile Detention Screener

About the role

The Juvenile Assessment Team at Polk County Juvenile Assessment Center is seeking a dedicated individual to screen juveniles and provide necessary assessments. This position offers competitive compensation, benefits, and flexible scheduling.

Responsibilities

• Completes substance abuse and mental health screenings
• Conducts face-to-face interviews with youth and their guardians
• Contacts victims, complainants, and arresting officers for input
• Provides recommendations to the State Attorney's Office
• Inputs youth data into the Juvenile Justice Information System
• Completes detention screening logs
• Advises youth of their rights
• Installs and monitors electronic monitoring equipment
• Attends court hearings and provides case management services
• Participates in meetings, trainings, and individual development sessions
• Serves as a backup to the Diversion unit
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, plus two (2) years' experience working with youth
• Associate's Degree may substitute for one (1) year of required work experience
• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice or social services may substitute for two (2) years of required work experience
• Ability to make critical decisions in high-stress situations
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Prolonged periods of sitting
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
• Physically able to participate in DJJ-approved crisis intervention curriculum and CPR/First Aid training
• Eligibility status, as determined by Level 2 background screening in accordance with Florida Statutes, Chapter 435 and/or Local Law
