About the role
The Juvenile Assessment Team at Polk County Juvenile Assessment Center is seeking a dedicated individual to screen juveniles and provide necessary assessments. This position offers competitive compensation, benefits, and flexible scheduling.
Responsibilities
- Completes substance abuse and mental health screenings
- Conducts face-to-face interviews with youth and their guardians
- Contacts victims, complainants, and arresting officers for input
- Provides recommendations to the State Attorney's Office
- Inputs youth data into the Juvenile Justice Information System
- Completes detention screening logs
- Advises youth of their rights
- Installs and monitors electronic monitoring equipment
- Attends court hearings and provides case management services
- Participates in meetings, trainings, and individual development sessions
- Serves as a backup to the Diversion unit
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent, plus two (2) years' experience working with youth
- Associate's Degree may substitute for one (1) year of required work experience
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice or social services may substitute for two (2) years of required work experience
- Ability to make critical decisions in high-stress situations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Prolonged periods of sitting
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
- Physically able to participate in DJJ-approved crisis intervention curriculum and CPR/First Aid training
- Eligibility status, as determined by Level 2 background screening in accordance with Florida Statutes, Chapter 435 and/or Local Law
