Juvenile Detention Counselor

About the role

Adelphoi, a nonprofit with over 50 years of transformative impact, is expanding into Allegheny County and seeking dedicated individuals to help at‑risk youth build a foundation for a brighter future. The Juvenile Detention Counselor works alongside the juvenile justice system to maintain a safe, secure environment for youth in temporary care.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with courts, police, and service providers to ensure a safe, secure environment for youth.
• Support a 24/7/365 operation, assisting adolescents in temporary care to navigate challenges and find a path forward.

Requirements

• Minimum of 60 college credits.
• Preferred experience in juvenile justice, congregate care, or youth‑focused roles.
• Ability to pass a company‑paid physical and obtain required clearances.

Training

New hires participate in a two‑week, daylight, paid training program. After training and clearance completion, employees transition to the Highland Detention facility in Allegheny County, with travel costs covered during this period. Employees are then added into rotating shifts.

Physical and Safety Requirements

• Safely perform physical interventions and restraints with individuals who may weigh 200+ pounds, using approved techniques.
• Stand, walk, and respond quickly throughout the shift.
• Successfully complete and maintain certification in Adelphoi’s crisis intervention/restraint training and pass any required physical abilities assessment.
