Midnight Detention Counselor for Juveniles - Pittsburgh Adelphoi Western Region – Highland Detention at Shuman. A local non-profit with a 50-year history of supporting young people in crisis seeks to build a team of people committed to assist our communities with youth who need immediate intervention. Responsibilities

• Work with local law enforcement officials, and juvenile authorities assisting youth with their urgent shelter needs while longer-term treatment interventions are prepared.
• Act as a point of first contact to explain to youth their situation, set roles and expectations as they enter into the program, and provide for their immediate needs.
• Sustain a group environment based on safety, security, and trust that enables an orderly and consistent routine in directing youth behavior.
• Complete a rigorous training program that will prepare you to build relationships with boundaries, address youth behaviors, and maintain healthy living arrangements.

Requirements

• The ability to demonstrate clear 1:1 communication, establish rapport with youth, and follow a strict routine that maximizes the stability of the living environment.
• A level of fitness that permits assisting with the physical care and safety of individuals and groups for the benefit of all program members.
• A minimum level of study that indicates the capacity to understand and apply regulations as they pertain to the secure setting.
• Minimum of 60 college credits required.
• Safely perform physical interventions and restraints with individuals who may weigh 200+ pounds, using approved techniques.
• Stand, walk, and respond quickly throughout the shift.
• Successfully complete and maintain certification in Adelphoi’s crisis intervention / restraint training and pass any required physical abilities assessment.
