Juvenile Court Liaison
Salary minimum: $22.98/hr.
About the Role
Under the joint oversight of the school principal and the Juvenile Court Officer IV supervising Scott County, the school-based Juvenile Court Liaison will be an employee of the Davenport Community School District. This person will perform duties relating to young people under supervision of the Juvenile Court Office, focusing on preventing or reducing truancy, behavior problems, and failing grades. The role requires working as part of a team to improve student performance.
Responsibilities
- Truancy:
- Receive referrals from school officials regarding students with attendance problems.
- Investigate attendance referrals, including in-home visits.
- Provide short-term counseling services to families whose children are experiencing attendance problems; may transport children to/from school to ensure attendance.
- Refer to and coordinate with other agency services to assist families with school attendance issues.
- Juvenile Probation Services:
- Aid in the supervision and counseling of juveniles under Juvenile Court Services supervision.
- Coordinate services provided by various agencies to assigned juveniles and their families.
- Consult and coordinate with school officials on each probationer's educational progress.
- Provide direct supervision to maintain appropriate school behavior, including 1-1 supervision in classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, and school grounds.
- Make home and community visits as needed to ensure compliance with school and probation programs, including attendance.
- Implement all Juvenile Court orders and dispositions of juveniles on caseload.
- Perform other duties as assigned, which may include special programming during summer months.
- Delinquency Prevention Activities:
- Counsel youth at risk of delinquent activity.
- Provide information regarding juvenile crime and its consequences to students within the Davenport Community School District.
- Make in-home and community visits as needed.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the school principal and/or Juvenile Court Office IV.

- Regularly required to sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties.
- Occasionally lift, move, or push items up to 50 lbs., such as assisting children or moving/rearranging furniture.
- Supervise students in all types of weather.
- Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
- Implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including appropriate physical restraint procedures and escorting.

Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Bachelor’s degree in counseling, criminal justice, sociology, or related social sciences.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students.
- Knowledge of Juvenile Court Law, procedures, and processes.
- Knowledge of Davenport Community School District procedures and policies related to truancy.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle crises effectively.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Must agree to criminal and child abuse record checks.
- Must possess a valid Iowa motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Experience with restorative practices or willingness to be trained.
