Junior Specialist - Feinberg Lab
About the role
The Feinberg Lab at UCSF is seeking a Junior Specialist. The incumbent will work with graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to pursue specialized research. Responsibilities may include performing stereotaxic surgeries to deliver viruses and drugs to specific anatomic sites in the mouse brain; performing recordings in the brains of awake, behaving mice; performing immunostaining of brain slices to characterize gene expression in the nervous system; running behavioral assays in conjunction with optogenetics or in vivo recording; genotyping and mouse colony maintenance and perform other duties as assigned. They will have opportunities to make scientific and scholarly contributions to research, which may include authoring publications.
Responsibilities
- Perform stereotaxic surgeries to deliver viruses and drugs to specific anatomic sites in the mouse brain
- Perform recordings in the brains of awake, behaving mice
- Perform immunostaining of brain slices to characterize gene expression in the nervous system
- Run behavioral assays in conjunction with optogenetics or in vivo recording
- Genotype and maintain mouse colonies
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written)
- Willingness and ability to learn new methods and skills for changing research priorities
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a research team
- Ability to prioritize tasks, coordinate work tasks with others, and meet multiple deadlines
