Junior Privacy and Cybersecurity Associate
About the role
Fenwick & West is seeking to expand its Chambers-ranked Privacy & Security practice by hiring a junior associate with 2 to 4 years of experience in privacy and cybersecurity law related to business transactions like mergers and acquisitions, licensing, and other technology transactions.
Responsibilities
- Counseling clients on privacy compliance aspects of transactional work, including mergers and acquisitions, financings, capital markets transactions, and technology transactions.
- Negotiating privacy-related contracts or data processing agreements.
- Drafting privacy and security policies.
- Providing comprehensive cybersecurity legal services, including governance, preparedness, compliance, data breach response, and defense of regulatory investigations and multidistrict class-action litigation.
- Understanding federal privacy laws (TCPA, GLBA, FCRA, CAN-SPAM, COPPA, FTC Act), state privacy laws (CCPA), and international privacy laws and regimes (GDPR).
- Experience with AI counseling is desirable but not essential.

- Solid understanding of privacy and cybersecurity laws.
- Excellent academic credentials.
- Superior oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong professional references.
Qualifications
- Bar membership in the jurisdiction where applying (as appropriate) or eligibility to take the next available exam is required.
Skills
- Experience with AI counseling is desirable but not essential.
- Exceptional candidates looking to transition to privacy and cybersecurity with experience in either M&A or technology transactions will be considered.
Benefits and Compensation

Temporary employees are generally not entitled to these benefits. The anticipated range for this position is $235,000 - $310,000 depending on the role, the actual base salary offered may depend upon a variety of factors, including years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. A discretionary bonus for eligible employees may also be available based on performance.
