Responsibilities
- Gathers, prepares, and summarizes relevant materials for use by litigation attorneys and/or other office professionals in preparation of memoranda and other legal documents.
- Reviews documents and cross-checks information.
- Synopsizes transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use; reviews case-related materials and identifies potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation; writes preliminary drafts of legal memoranda and correspondence.
- Supports litigation attorneys during trial, including courtroom locations, and may include experience in witness interviews.
- Enters data into computerized systems and updates databases and spreadsheets.
- Performs document review and research, summarizing findings.
- Affords assistance with document productions.
- Maintains, organizes, and files office records and documents.
- Assists in processing notices, orders, and action memos.
- Maintains, organizes, and files office records and documents.
- Performs complex database searches related to filings (e.g., Name Relationship Search Index) and other legal database searches (e.g., basic Westlaw and/or LEXIS).
- Prepares and maintains database monitoring and tracking status (e.g., tracks and/or organizes materials using agency automated database/systems, such as word processing software, spreadsheets, computer graphics, presentation software, or database applications).
- Travel may be required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in a related labor category field such as Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or Criminal Justice from an accredited college, university, school, or educational institution recognized by the US Department of Education.
- Minimum two (2) years Paralegal experience with a specialty in Litigation (Trial).
- Possess a Paralegal Certificate.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Proficient with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as legal software such as Lexis Nexis and/or Westlaw.
- Possess and use excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience drafting and reviewing various legal documents such as motions, briefs, subpoenas, legal memoranda, and correspondence for attorneys.
- Experience conducting legal research using Lexis Nexis or Westlaw.
- Experience interviewing witnesses and supporting attorneys during trial, including courtroom locations.
- Possess a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in preparing work product.
- Ability to work effectively in an extremely pressured and deadline-driven environment.
- Keen sense of accountability and taking ownership over projects.
- Possess a professional demeanor and can collaborate well with all team members and staff.
- Ability to work concurrently on a variety of projects, flexibility in shifting focus.
