Responsibilities
- Assisting with installations, servicing, troubleshooting, and performing preventive and predictive maintenance.
- Becoming proficient in:
- Troubleshooting, repairing, and wiring 120V and 3-phase 460V AC circuits, 24V DC control circuits, and installing distribution systems up to 460V.
- Wiring single-phase, 3-phase 460V, and 3-phase 4160V motors according to NEC/OSHA codes, and troubleshooting/installing coils, contactors, relays, and brakes.
- Diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on process equipment, plant lighting, electrical circuits, motors, starters, MCCs, PLCs, control panels, transformers, switches, transmitters, automatic valves, regulators, and overhead cranes.
- Understanding and repairing guiding systems, troubleshooting control valves and transmitters, and gaining a solid grasp of pneumatic controls (controllers, actuators, positioners).
- Interpreting P&ID, hydraulic, pneumatic, and wiring drawings/diagrams.
- Using and interpreting tools like Megohm meters and multimeters (volts, amps, ohms) to accurately diagnose issues.
- Safely racking in/out 460V, 4160V, and 12.47kV breakers, and running/bending conduit and pulling wire.
- Safely operating motorized equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, Genie lifts, hoists, and cranes.
- Reading orders, performing basic to intermediate math, understanding technical manuals, and composing shift logs, reports, and emails.
- Participating in general housekeeping, including washing, sweeping, shoveling debris, cleaning leaks/spills, and emptying garbage cans to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Contributing to process troubleshooting based on equipment design knowledge and performing other tasks as needed by Mill Management.
Requirements
- A post-secondary educational degree (2 to 4-year degree) from a college, university, technical school, military, vocational, or other advanced educational institution is REQUIRED.
- A basic understanding of electricity and instrumentation, with a strong willingness to learn and apply new technical skills.
- The ability to diagnose issues, learn from experienced technicians, and work towards effective solutions.
- A paramount commitment to safety, including ensuring guards are in place, following plant safety rules and policies, securing electrical panels, disconnecting abandoned wiring, adhering to PPE requirements (especially arc-flash protection), wearing eye and hearing protection, and strictly following lockout/tag out procedures.
- Ability to work with hand and power tools, manual dexterity with both hands, climb in/out of motorized equipment, operate pedals and lift controls, and maneuver equipment safely. You'll also frequently lift items manually and move/position ladders safely. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs safely and know when to ask for help with heavier items.
- Able to read orders and reports, communicate orally with all personnel, operate a calculator for basic math, and possess basic typing skills.
- A proven record of learning new concepts and a commitment to participating in ongoing educational certificate training programs.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with all personnel.
- The work can be physically and mentally demanding. You'll need to observe areas for electrical hazards, perform simple rigging, and maintain the cleanliness of work areas.
Qualifications
- Background Checks: Successful completion of drug testing/screening, background checks, physical exam, and reference checks.
- Availability: May require assignment to a rotating shift schedule.
