JUNIOR DATA ANALYST
Location: New York, NY – primarily remote with required in-office presence 2–3 times per month on a preset schedule.
About the role
The Junior Data Analyst supports the Analytics team by helping build accurate, repeatable reporting and data processes. The individual uses SQL, Python, and version-control tools to maintain and improve reports, dashboards, data feeds, quality-assurance processes, and analytical workflows. This role is ideal for an early-career technical analyst who is curious, detail-oriented, and interested in using code to solve business problems. The role combines hands-on data work with business-facing reporting and insight generation across offline and online marketing programs.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, improve, and automate recurring business, marketing, and client-facing reports, dashboards, and data feeds.
- Use SQL and Python to improve reporting accuracy, reduce manual work, and create repeatable analytical workflows.
- Ensure reports are accurate, consistent, and delivered on time according to established schedules and ad hoc needs.
- Use GitHub to manage code, track changes, and collaborate with the Analytics team.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and translate them into repeatable reporting solutions.
- Investigate data patterns, variances, and anomalies, and communicate findings to internal stakeholders.
- Support outbound marketing campaigns by developing and validating SQL-based audience and prospect selection routines in partnership with marketing stakeholders.
- Ensure audience selections align with defined business rules, campaign objectives, and data quality standards.
- Perform routine data validation, quality assurance, and maintenance of reporting datasets and platforms.
- Build or improve quality-assurance checks that identify missing data, unexpected changes, outliers, and inconsistencies.
- Identify data issues, investigate root causes, and collaborate with internal teams to resolve them.
- Work within a cloud-based analytics environment to support automated reporting and data workflows.
Requirements
- BA or BS in a quantitative, technical, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 0 to 2 years of experience in a data, analytics, reporting, business intelligence, or technical project environment (internship, academic, bootcamp, portfolio, or self-directed project experience will be considered).
- Practical SQL proficiency, including querying, joining, filtering, aggregating, validating, and troubleshooting data.
- Python experience used for data analysis, reporting automation, and workflow support.
- Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to translate data into meaningful business insights.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Qualifications
- Understanding of cloud-based data environments, including AWS services such as S3, Lambda, and Athena, is a plus.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted coding or analytics tools, including the ability to validate generated work, is a plus.
- Familiarity with Git or another version-control system through professional, academic, or personal projects is a plus.
- Experience writing SQL to support marketing audience selection, segmentation, or targeting workflows is a plus.
- Experience in the publishing or media industry is a plus.
Pay
Anticipated base salary range: $70,000 – $80,000 annually. Actual compensation within the range will be based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications.
