About the role
Lidl US is expanding its Purchasing team and seeking ambitious individuals with an interest in buying to join as a Junior Buyer (Assistant Category Manager). This is a fast-paced, high-impact role where you will learn to negotiate, analyze, and innovate alongside Senior Category Managers. You’ll gain hands-on experience in best-in-class retail from a global leader.
Responsibilities
- Manage projects, work processes, systems, and procedures to ensure efficient workflow.
- Update guidelines, standard operating procedures, and instructional materials.
- Identify, develop, and propose opportunities for business and process improvement.
- Support national and international projects by producing business requirements, performing system tests, and implementing technical improvements.
- Analyze various KPIs in coordination with Category Managers to drive informed buying decisions.
- Support national and international product development, including defining quality, shaping business requirements, and testing technical improvements.
- Prepare and collect critical information for major purchase agreements and contracts.
- Support negotiations and maintain coordination with domestic and international suppliers.
- Prepare category, quality control, and trend analyses to keep Lidl ahead of retail trends.
- Analyze retail prices and the competitive landscape to ensure unbeatable value.
- Lead product tastings and quality assurance for negotiated items.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Retail, Fashion Merchandising, or a related field (or 4+ years of related experience in lieu of a degree).
- 0–2 years of experience in a related field.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with excellent follow-through.
- Proficient in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, or related software.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1–6 months of purchasing experience in a grocery retail setting.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Travel Requirements
- Commute between stores, regional offices, and/or distribution centers up to 25% of the time.
- Overnight domestic travel less than 25% of the time.
