Pay
The salary range for this position is:
- $52,182.11 to $82,252.88 for Schedule A
- $52,182.11 to $73,634.81 for Schedule B
For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater. Judiciary employees hired prior to August 21, 2014, are considered Schedule A. Newly hired individuals, and Judiciary employees hired on or after August 21, 2014, are considered Schedule B.
Schedule
The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule. This position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, you will need high-speed home internet access and must install a multifactor authentication app on your phone or tablet.
Responsibilities
- Provide assistance and excellent customer service to litigants, court staff, and users of the Ombudsman Resource Center in both English and Spanish.
- Apply court rules, statutes, policies, and case management procedures to assist litigants via in-person, telephone, and email inquiries in both English and Spanish.
- Compose routine correspondence or standard replies to inquiries.
- Assist pro se litigants with completion of Judiciary forms in both English and Spanish.
- Review litigants' documents for completeness and procedural accuracy prior to filing and provide litigants with procedural information according to established court standards.
- Ensure the collection of data on walk-ins, telephone calls, and emails to the Office of the Ombudsman.
- Assist with Community Outreach and other Ombudsman Office initiatives.
- Perform other supportive duties related to the Ombudsman Program, as assigned.

Open to judiciary employees who have an aggregate of one year of permanent service as of the announced closing date in the following career (classified) titles:
- Advancement Judiciary Clerk 3
- Judiciary Clerk 3 Bilingual
- Judiciary Account Clerk 2
- Judiciary Account Clerk 2 Bilingual
Lateral reassignment is available for:
- Judiciary Clerk 4
- Judiciary Clerk 4 Bilingual
Eligibility for Advancement: Applicants must have achieved all the competencies for advancement to Judiciary Clerk 4 Bilingual as listed on the Career Progression Eligibility Form for this title. Applicants for advancement are not required to take a New Jersey Civil Service Commission promotional examination.
Qualifications
Experience Requirement: Three years of experience performing a variety of clerical and support services, including keyboarding and one or more of the following:
- Document or information processing
- Handling payments for fees, recording monies received, reconciling balances or accounts
- Scheduling meetings or appointments
Ability to use a keyboard (no minimum speed required).
BICAT Testing: Candidates selected to serve in a bilingual variant title must pass the New Jersey Civil Service Commission Bilingual Communicative Ability Test (BICAT) performance examination or provide proof of having established bilingual proficiency with the New Jersey Civil Service Commission.
Driver's License: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
Background Check: Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence.
Residency Law: In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), the "New Jersey First Act," all persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Exemptions may be requested from the Employee Residency Review Committee on the basis of hardship or employer critical need.
