Judicial Law Clerk Intern
This is a law student position that provides direct support to District Court and County Court at Law Judges while offering hands-on exposure to the judicial process. Selected and supervised by an individual judge, the law clerk assists with legal research, case review, and court-related functions, gaining practical experience in judicial decision-making, courtroom proceedings, and case management under the guidance of the presiding judge.
Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research on statutes, case law, and procedural issues at the direction of the judge
- Assist in reviewing case filings, motions, and pleadings for assigned matters
- Prepare draft memoranda, summaries, and correspondence for judicial review
- Observe court proceedings, hearings, and trials as assigned
- Assist the judge and court staff with case preparation and docket-related tasks
- Maintain organization of case materials and supporting documentation
- Ensure confidentiality of all judicial work products and sensitive information
- Provide general administrative or research support as requested by the judge
- Perform other duties as assigned by the presiding judge
Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled in an accredited law school
- Good academic standing with their educational institution
- Ability to pass a background check
- Strong interest in the legal field, judicial process, or public service
- Availability to meet the schedule established by the assigned judge

- Basic understanding of legal principles, terminology, and court procedures
- Strong legal research and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to learn and navigate case management systems
- Ability to work independently with direction from the assigned judge
- Professional demeanor with the ability to interact effectively with court personnel, attorneys, and the public
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- Lifting/carrying up to 10 lbs. occasionally
- Visual acuity, speech, and hearing
- Hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computer keyboard and basic office equipment
- Subject to sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and handling to perform the essential functions
