Judicial Clerk I
Mission Statement
The Judicial Department works to provide equal access to justice, contribute to public safety, and strengthen the rule of law across Colorado. Together our courts and probation departments are committed to impartial and timely dispute resolution; support for families, litigants, and victims; client rehabilitation; and meaningful community engagement.
STATEMENT OF DUTIES
- Assists customers with paperwork, answers questions, reviews court forms for completeness, and assigns case numbers.
- Receives and processes incoming correspondence via email, mail, e-filing, and in-person filings, and distribution.
- Serves in a training capacity in all areas of more advanced responsibilities.
- Maintains case documentation and updates case management system, including adding case information and documentation to case management system, updating case information, updating contact information, processing bond forfeitures, and entering transcript requests.
- Adheres to data integrity and timelines per applicable laws and regulations.
- Transfers information from law enforcement tickets or information filed into the case management system.
- Manages scheduling for time sensitive cases, such as cases requesting protection orders or other emergency matters.
- Ensures court-scheduled events and review dates are entered in every case.
- Processes and returns records upon mandate.
- Accepts and processes payments via cash, check, and credit card for court fines, fees, filing fees, and bonds.
- Reconciles cash drawer and income daily and prepares the daily deposit.
- Responds to customer's inquiries via phone, email, and voice mail.
- Acts as liaison between division/Judicial Officer and customers, directs parties to correct location and/or divisions, de-escalates situations of stress or conflict, and explains court processes without providing legal advice.
- Trains within trial court/appellate court procedures.
- Issues orders and notices from the court, including orders regarding case deadlines, orders of extension of time, notices of new case filings, notices of oral argument, receipt of trial court records, and mandates returning authority to a trial court once case is complete.
- Ensures service to all necessary litigants and trial/appellate courts.
- Completes required trainings and attends meetings as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others.
Human Collaboration
Work requires regular interaction involving exchange and receipt of information. Interactions have limited impact. Freedom To Act & Impact Of Actions Employee normally perform assignments after receiving detailed instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results with little room for deviation. The immediate Reviewer may, at times, provide close and constant review. Impact of actions are moderate.
Knowledge & Skills
Work requires the use of basic skills and general knowledge of work. Incumbent can complete basic or routine tasks, but frequently references others for non-routine tasks. Likely impact on organization is standard.
Fiscal Responsibility
May be responsible for the billing, collection and/or accounting of funds. May be responsible for the handling and balancing of cash.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education and Experience: Equivalency: High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Work Related Experience: None.
- Licenses And Certifications: None.
Physical Effort Requirements
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally. Work Environment Relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Work Location: Office or similar indoor environment. Exposures: None.
