About the role

The position serves as a Judicial Assistant III in the Salt Lake City Justice Court, operating under a hybrid work model. It involves directing and scheduling court hearings, preparing and filing criminal matters, and assisting with various court processes.

Responsibilities

  • Issues, directs, and schedules court hearings via virtual hosting systems.
  • Prepares and verifies documents for court use by judges and attorneys.
  • Maintains and electronically files all charging documents from outside agencies.
  • Monitors and closes cases based on standing orders and policies.
  • Manages court calendars for criminal, traffic, and small claims cases.
  • Operates court data management systems to input and retrieve case information.
  • Responds to questions about court processes and provides information on city codes and state statutes.
  • Resolves discrepancies in court records and determines penalties for traffic, criminal, and small claims cases.
  • Processes financial obligations and manages collections.
  • Represents the court at community outreach events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Work experience as stipulated for each level (JAI, JAI II, JAI III).
  • Ability to obtain Utah BCI systems certification within 30 days upon request.
  • Proficiency in computers, Microsoft Office, and electronic filing systems.
  • Confidentiality and ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to follow complex directions and prioritize tasks.
  • Hybrid work schedule from home.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Four years of experience in a customer-oriented or hybrid office environment, including two years of legal experience as a Judicial Assistant, Paralegal, or Legal Assistant.
  • Three years of experience in a customer-oriented or hybrid office environment, including one year of legal experience as a Judicial Assistant, Paralegal, or Legal Assistant.
  • Two years of experience in a customer-oriented or hybrid office environment.

Skills

  • Knowledge of the judicial system, court procedures, and legal processes.
  • Broad knowledge of due process and problem-solving skills.
  • Customer service skills, especially under stressful circumstances.
  • Ability to operate court data management systems.
  • Proficiency in multiple specialties and courtroom capabilities.

Pay

The salary range for this position is as follows:

  • Judicial Assistant I: $20.68 - $31.09
  • Judicial Assistant II: $21.99 - $33.06
  • Judicial Assistant III: $22.75 - $34.20

Schedule

This is a full-time position with a scheduled work hour of 40 hours per week.
