Presbyterian Hospitality House (PHH), Alaska's leading adolescent residential treatment program, is looking for a Jr. Accounting Specialist to join our team at our Fairbanks, Alaska location. This position is part-time with the option for full-time.

About the role

Responsible for providing accurate, timely accounting and administrative support to the Finance Department. We are seeking an emotionally healthy individual with common sense and a good sense of humor.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with payroll entries, receipts, deposits, expenses, and allocations
  • Process vendor payments, credit card and fuel receipt documentation
  • Handle program-related claims and reviews
  • Manage petty cash and rental payments
  • Perform filing and other routine finance functions
  • Ensure transactions are properly coded, entered, reconciled, documented, and maintained in accordance with PHH policies, generally accepted accounting practices, nonprofit requirements, and applicable state or program regulations
  • Maintain confidentiality and support compliance with internal controls, audit requirements, and applicable nonprofit funding or program requirements
  • Communicate professionally with staff and vendors
  • Meet recurring deadlines

Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate’s degree in accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred
  • One to two years of bookkeeping, accounting support, payroll, accounts payable, or administrative finance experience preferred
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered

Skills

  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Accurate data entry skills
  • Ability to maintain organized financial records
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (required)
  • Experience with QuickBooks and routine financial documentation (preferred)
