Journeyperson Mechanic (welder specialty)

About the Role

Performs all types of mechanical, civil, and structural construction, maintenance, and repair work on project features including reservoirs, concrete dams, powerhouses, appurtenant structures, buildings, marine equipment, and all fixed or movable machinery and other equipment. The work requires expertise in one or more skilled trades such as mechanic, machinist, welder, ironworker, blacksmith, millwright, carpenter, crane operator, rigger, plumber, pipefitter, sheet metal worker, mason, painter, and auto mechanic.

Responsibilities

• Perform welding tasks using various techniques such as TIG, MIG, SMAW (stick), and GMAW.
• Assemble, repair, and maintain turbine components, penstocks, intake structures, generator frames, and other metal assemblies exposed to high pressure, water, and temperature variations.
• Inspect and assess the condition of machinery, equipment, and structures to determine repair or replacement needs.
• Follow blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications to ensure precision and compliance with requirements.
• Operate and maintain welding equipment, tools, and safety systems in accordance with OSHA and plant-specific regulations.
• Work in confined spaces, high-pressure areas, and challenging weather conditions, following strict safety protocols.
• Collaborate with maintenance teams to resolve operational issues and ensure plant uptime.

Requirements

• Successful completion of apprenticeship as a welder or closely related discipline.
• 4 years of experience at the journeyperson level in the welder specialty.
• Ability to perform mechanical maintenance functions within a hydroelectric power plant.

Pay

The negotiated pay rate for this position is $51.01 per hour.
