Journeyman Truck Technician / Mechanic - Day Shift
About the role
Pape’ Kenworth, a premier medium and heavy-duty truck and equipment dealer in the West, is seeking a Journeyman Truck Technician / Mechanic to join our team. You will work on medium and heavy-duty class 7 & 8 trucks in the shop, ensuring repairs are done accurately and timely to support our customers and maximize their uptime. This role demands technical expertise, critical thinking under pressure, and leadership to guide others. You will analyze and diagnose complex truck malfunctions, repair or rebuild components (e.g., cabs, steering systems, engines, transmissions, axles, brakes, electrical systems, air systems), and perform maintenance to ensure reliability and extend vehicle life. The role requires sound judgment, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair medium and heavy-duty class 7 & 8 trucks, including engine repair, electronic troubleshooting, HVAC systems, and chassis repair.
- Perform accurate and timely repairs to minimize customer downtime and ensure trucks return to service correctly the first time.
- Analyze complex truck malfunctions or system failures and determine the best course of action for repairs.
- Maintain and service trucks to ensure reliability, minimize downtime, and extend vehicle life.
- Serve as a leader and mentor for other technicians, providing guidance and expertise.
- Work with a variety of systems, including cabs, steering, engines, transmissions, axles, differentials, brakes, clutches, electrical, and air systems.
Requirements
- 3 or more years of experience working on all makes and models of medium and heavy-duty class 7/8 trucks.
- Experience with engine repair, electronic troubleshooting, HVAC systems, and chassis repair.
- Kenworth Essentials certifications preferred.
- Basic computer knowledge; Cummins and MX software experience preferred.
- Self-motivation and ability to work with little or no supervision.
- Excellent communication and customer relations skills.
- Must provide own tools.
Pay
$35.35–$39.90 per hour, depending on experience.
