About the role
The Journeyman Maintenance Welder is responsible for making necessary repairs to manufacturing equipment, servicing various industrial machinery and equipment, and plant facilities. This position involves welding both ferrous, non-ferrous, and reactive alloys, including performing welding, brazing, and cutting operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform planned and corrective maintenance welding, repair, and fabrication to support maintenance and production operations.
- Work on various industrial machinery and equipment, including vessels, vacuum systems, and other plant facilities.
- Use a variety of welding processes including SMAW, TIG, GMAW, and CAC-A in all positions (vertical, flat, overhead).
- Leverage plasma, oxy/acetylene, oxy/natural gas, and carbon arc cutting equipment.
- Operate standard metalworking tools such as press brakes, metal shears, punch presses, forming rolls, overhead cranes, and below-the-hook lifting devices.
- Read and properly layout work and identified materials based on engineering prints, shop drawings, and handmade sketches.
- Evaluate weld cracks and apply effective repairs in the field.
- Operate forklifts, scissor lifts, and snorkel lifts.
- Work at elevated heights and in confined spaces, sometimes using respiratory protection.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
- At least 2 years of vocational training and 6 years of verified Journeyman level welding experience.
- 8 years of direct on-the-job experience in an industrial or manufacturing welding environment at a Journeyman level.
- Highly skilled in SMAW, TIG, GMAW, and CAC-A welding.
- Familiarity with AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code.
- Knowledge and hands-on practical test required for eligible candidates.
- Skilled in copper and stainless steel welding (preference).
