Journeyman Facilities Technician - Facility and Grounds

About the role

The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) is a non-profit Tribal health organization dedicated to serving Alaska Native and American Indian communities. ANTHC provides comprehensive healthcare services, including medical services at the Alaska Native Medical Center, wellness programs, and rural provider training.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots and repairs heating, cooling, and room pressurization issues, refrigeration units, ice machines, air handlers, humidifiers, heat pumps, chillers, cooling towers, mechanical and refrigeration units.
  • Maintains differential pressure of rooms according to regulatory standards.
  • Adjusts temperatures and humidity levels accordingly.
  • Installs mechanical equipment as necessary.
  • Conducts preventative maintenance on air handlers, filters, exhaust fans, cold roof fans, heat pumps, chillers, cooling towers, mechanical and refrigeration units.
  • Installs and modifies ductwork and heating and cooling vents in remodeled areas.
  • Identifies, researches, and repairs mechanical problems.
  • Calculates requirements for fan systems and balances fan installations.
  • Patches, sands, and primes walls and surfaces for painting.
  • Mixes and applies paint, lacquer, primer, sealer, stain, epoxy, and acrylic to necessary shades.
  • Paints walls, doors, door casings, trims, ceilings, stairs, floors, equipment, and other projects.
  • Paints hospital exterior including retaining walls, light pole bases, sign bases, and handrails.
  • Paints parking lot striping, crosswalks, handicap parking, and street curbs.
  • Performs drywall finishing and painting of remodeled areas including mudding, taping, texturing, and feathering of surfaces.
  • Repairs or replaces damaged wall coverings in rooms as needed.
  • Designs, constructs, and repairs structures, including shaping, contouring, fabricating, altering, and installing synthetic and high-grade wood items.
  • Builds or remodels interior spaces including both office areas and patient care areas, including fabrication of walls, door frames, ceilings, and flooring.
  • Performs concrete coring and refinishing work.
  • Inspects, services, and maintains operational functionality of doors, windows, locks, security accesses, and fire alarm triggered devices.
  • Designs, upgrades, and performs installation and maintenance of locks, keypads, and electronic security systems including elevator access control systems.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and conducts preventative maintenance of boilers and hospital facilities, conducting rounds and monitoring steam, water, air, glycol, and medical gas systems.
  • Performs chemical analysis of treated water systems.
  • Monitors systems, including building environmental control, energy management, security, and fire protection/detection systems, pneumatic tube system, trolley system, and elevator car systems.
  • Responds to service calls or work requests from all areas of the hospital relating to the repair and maintenance of plumbing fixtures, patient beds, hospital air handling systems, medical gas systems, lighting, and nurse call systems.
  • Corrects problems or refers to another department.
  • Fulfills safety precautions and procedures in performance of job duties.
  • Orders supplies and materials related to projects and coordinates and schedules contractors and other maintenance workers.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Facilities Assistant: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Journey Facilities Technician and Senior Journeyman Technician: Completion of a formal apprenticeship program typically requiring 6000-8000 hours of education, practice, and/or on-the-job training leading to a senior journey-level designation. An equivalent amount of education, training, and/or experience may be substituted for the apprenticeship program.

  • Skill in reading and evaluating blueprints, panel layout sheets, and other technical schematics.

  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others.
